Nostalgic Memory of My Life Before Birth is an ongoing project based on historical biographical events. Halfway between reality and fiction, they materialized in black and white photographs, in which various characters from another era are represented.
The series was presented at Barbara Davis Gallery in Houston in the context of FotoFest The Biennial 2026, Global Visions – FotoFest at 40, which celebrates four decades of groundbreaking photographic arts and education programming in Texas. The exhibition opening took place on March 6 and will be on view until mid April.
Within this context, the artist Miguel Soler-Roig activated the project through a participatory photocall, inviting visitors to ask themselves: If you could be a historical figure, who would you be? Drawing from literature, art, history, music, philosophy, and more, participants will be encouraged to reflect on their passions, interests, and personal affinities in order to identify with a historical character—balancing inner temperament and physical resemblance.
The participants chose a name from a list available at the gallery entrance and took part in a portrait session held between the first two weeks of the exhibition. Visitors incorporated into the series, becoming mirrors of the past and active contributors to a living evolving narrative that bridges history and the present.

Memoria nostálgica de mi vida antes de nacer es un proyecto en curso basado en eventos históricos biográficos. A medio camino entre la realidad y la ficción, se materializan en fotografías en blanco y negro en las que se representan diversos personajes pertenecientes a otra época.
La serie fue presentada en la Galería Barbara Davis de Houston en el contexto de FotoFest The Biennial 2026, *Global Visions – FotoFest at 40*, que celebra cuatro décadas de innovadores programas de artes fotográficas y educación en Texas. La exposición, cuya inauguración tuvo lugar el 6 de marzo, permanecerá abierta hasta mediados de abril de 2026.
En este contexto, Miguel Soler-Roig activó el proyecto mediante un photocall participativo, invitando a los visitantes a preguntarse: Si pudieras ser una figura histórica, ¿quién serías?. A partir de referencias de la literatura, el arte, la historia, la música, la filosofía y más, se animó a los participantes a reflexionar sobre sus pasiones, intereses y afinidades personales para identificarse con un personaje histórico, equilibrando el temperamento interior y el parecido físico.
Los participantes eligieron un nombre de una lista disponible en la entrada de la galería y tomaron parte en una sesión de retratos realizada en las dos primeras semanas de la exposición. Los visitantes se incorporaron a la serie, convirtiéndose en espejos del pasado y en contribuyentes activos de una narrativa viva y en evolución que conecta la historia con el presente.
