Gallery Weekend Mexico City + Flux//Zone

Gallery Weekend celebrated its sixth edition in Mexico City from September 20th to September 23rd, 2018. This cultural project circuit is a museological showcase that presents art galleries as centers that promote critical, innovative, creative and transgressive thinking by fostering the exchange and dialogue of new proposals for contemporary art.

The platform has been established in the national cultural scene by placing art in the media spotlight by encouraging the participation of collectors and giving visibility to the galleries of Mexico City, which strengthen their link with the community interested in art and culture during this weekend; likewise the circuit is a space of international impulse, since, with presence in more than fifteen cities in the world such as Barcelona, Paris, Tel Aviv, Seoul, Santiago de Chile and Havana, it is an opportunity for the Mexican galleries to find diffusion in the cultural field at an international level.

For the first time in the six years of existence of the program in Mexico, San Angel one of the most well-known colonial areas in the city joins the route previously integrated only by the areas of Lomas, Polanco, San Miguel Chapultepec, Condesa, Roma, Juárez, San Rafael and Santa María la Ribera.

The forty galleries participating in Gallery Weekend especially designed an exhibition for the program. Flux // Zone will present Out of Silence by Spanish photographer Miguel Soler-Roig, a project carried out at the end of summer 2016, when Soler-Roig traveled to one of the most inaccessible regions of Tibet to hear the first words of a Lama that held a vow of silence during three years and document it through graphic video work and photography.

Gallery Weekend celebró su sexta edición en la Ciudad de México del 20 al 23 de septiembre de 2018. Este circuito de proyectos culturales es un escaparate museológico que presenta a las galerías de arte como centros que promueven el pensamiento crítico, innovador, creativo y transgresor al fomentar el intercambio y el diálogo de Nuevas propuestas para el arte contemporáneo.

 

La plataforma se estableció en la escena cultural nacional al colocar el arte en el centro de atención de los medios de comunicación, alentando la participación de los coleccionistas y dando visibilidad a las galerías de la Ciudad de México, que fortalecen su vínculo con la comunidad interesada en el arte y la cultura durante este fin de semana; asimismo, el circuito es un espacio de impulso internacional, ya que, con presencia en más de quince ciudades en el mundo como Barcelona, ​​París, Tel Aviv, Seúl, Santiago de Chile y La Habana, es una oportunidad para que las galerías mexicanas encuentren difusión. En el ámbito cultural a nivel internacional.

 

Las cuarenta galerías que participaron en Gallery Weekend diseñaron especialmente una exposición para el programa. Flux // Zone presentará Out of Silence del fotógrafo español Miguel Soler-Roig, un proyecto llevado a cabo a fines del verano de 2016, cuando Soler-Roig viajó a una de las regiones más inaccesibles del Tíbet para escuchar las primeras palabras de un Lama que mantuvo un voto de silencio durante tres años y lo documenta a través de video gráfico y fotografía.
